Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009, and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.

The Role

The Jumbo Trainer develops and certifies underground jumbo drill operators at the Sukari Gold Mine to safely and efficiently execute production drilling in line with site standards, critical controls, and the mine plan. The role delivers competency-based training, conducts practical assessments, and provides coaching to improve drilling quality, equipment care, and compliance while maintaining accurate training records and partnering with operations, HSE, and maintenance.

Contract Type: Full Time

Schedule: Roster 20/10 Days aligned to underground operations; training delivered across shifts

The Key Responsibilities

 

Training delivery and coaching: Deliver structured classroom, simulation, and in-field coaching on jumbo operation and standard work.

Operational standards demonstration: Model correct pre-start, tramming, set-up, drilling, and shut-down practices to protect people, equipment, and ground conditions.

Competency assessment and authorisation: Conduct theory and practical assessments; recommend authorisations, restrictions, or remediation and maintain re-assessment schedules.

Training materials and standard work: Develop and maintain training content, job aids, and assessments aligned to OEM guidance, SOPs, and critical controls.

Operational support and feedback: Provide on-shift observations and feedback; diagnose recurring errors and propose targeted interventions to improve drill quality and cycle time.

HSE and critical controls: Verify critical controls during training and operations; stop work on unsafe acts/conditions and ensure emergency readiness.

Environmental and equipment care: Reinforce spill prevention, dust control, waste segregation, and equipment care to minimise damage and environmental impact.

The Requirements

 

Technical/Vocational Diploma or equivalent in Mining Operations, Mechanical/Auto, or related discipline; demonstrated competence as an underground jumbo operator and accredited internal trainer/assessor.

Minimum 5 years’ experience operating underground jumbo drills in hard-rock mining.

Minimum 2 years’ experience coaching/training/mentoring operators with evidence of competency sign-off.

Experience working within a competency-based training and verification framework and maintaining training records.

Professional Arabic and English proficiency.

Valid driving licence; underground work authorisations and medical/fitness clearance; jumbo operator permit/authorisation; site-required equipment licences as applicable.

Physically fit for underground work; willingness to work rostered shifts and respond to operational coaching needs.

Preferred: Train-the-Trainer/Adult Learning certificate; OEM jumbo operator training (Sandvik/Epiroc or equivalent); assessor certification; first aid and emergency response training.
