Senior Mine Data Scientist
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialized mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Mining Data Scientist transforms complex operational, geological, metallurgical, and asset data into actionable insights. This role is responsible for building predictive models, optimizing short-term scheduling, enhancing fleet utilization, and uncovering hidden patterns in production data to drive efficiency, safety, profitability, maximize gold recovery, and minimize unit costs.
Location: On-site in Marsa Alam
Contract Type: Permanent, full-time
Schedule: 20/10 working roster

The Key Responsibilities
Data Transformation: Turn complex operational, geological, metallurgical, and asset data into actionable, profit-driving insights.
Predictive Modelling: Build and deploy predictive models to assist with maintenance, fragmentation, and overall production forecasting.
Operational Optimization: Optimize short-term scheduling and improve fleet utilization to reduce haulage bottlenecks and queue times.
Reporting & Reconciliations: Monitor and minimize the variance between planned vs. actual moved tonnes and grade reconciliation.
Dashboard Management: Establish and maintain high-uptime, reliable operational dashboards and automated data pipelines.
Coach team on data scientists.
Update Open Pit leadership with periodic data.
The Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Mining Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
6–8 years of experience in a data analytics or data science role, ideally gained within a heavy industry, open-pit mining, oil & gas, or logistics environment.
Advanced proficiency in Python or R for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and machine learning (utilizing libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, and XGBoost).
Strong SQL skills for querying relational databases, with experience handling structured, unstructured, and time-series data, as well as APIs.
Mastery of BI tools like Power BI or Tableau, alongside Python visualization libraries (Seaborn, Plotly) to build dynamic operational dashboards.
Experience working with data from industry-standard systems such as Modular Mining, Jigsaw, Wenco, Caterpillar MineStar, Deswik, Datamine, or Surpac.
