Community Relations Superintendent
Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialized mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements.

The Role
The Community Relations Superintendent leads the site social performance function to protect and strengthen SGM’s social license to operate. This role develops and governs the Social Management Plan, directs local stakeholder engagement and grievance resolution mechanisms, oversees community investment programs aligned with ESG commitments, provides strategic advice on social and human rights impacts, and ensures accurate sustainability reporting (GRI-aligned) to enable uninterrupted mining operations.
Key Responsibilities & Performance Indicators
Social Performance & Stakeholder Engagement
Framework Development: Establish, update, and govern the site Social Management Plan and stakeholder engagement frameworks to safeguard the operational social license.
Grievance Management: Direct transparent, audit-ready grievance mechanisms, drive conflict resolution, and handle sensitive community issues with high diplomatic awareness.
Community Investment: Oversee community investment and CSR programs to ensure alignment with corporate ESG goals, socio-economic impact metrics, and local stakeholder needs.
ESG Compliance & Sustainability Reporting
GRI Standards Compliance: Audit, maintain, and align site ESG/Sustainability data collection processes to ensure compliance with GRI reporting standards and corporate audit requirements.
Impact & Risk Advice: Provide risk-based advice on social, cultural, and human-rights impacts (incorporating VPSHR/UNGP frameworks) across surface and underground operations.
Departmental Leadership & First 6 Months Priorities
Core Priority 1: Establish robust, structured stakeholder engagement and grievance resolution frameworks to protect the operational social license.
Core Priority 2: Conduct a comprehensive audit and align site ESG/Sustainability data collection processes for GRI-compliant reporting.
Communications & Working Relations
Internal: HSE Manager, HSES Team, Site General Manager, Operations, Projects, Legal, and Corporate ESG/Sustainability teams.
External: Local community leaders, governmental authorities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), external sustainability auditors, and contractors.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Minimum Education & Certifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Environmental/Social Management, Communications, or a related discipline.
Preferred Education: Postgraduate degree (Master’s) in Sustainability/ESG, Social Development, or Strategic Leadership.
Certifications & Training: Formal training or certification in ESG reporting (GRI Standards), ISO 26000 guidance, Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR/UNGP), and stakeholder negotiation/crisis management.
Experience Profile
Years of Experience: Minimum 9+ years of progressive experience in community relations, CSR, ESG, or social performance.
Industry Sector: Experience within mining or extractives/heavy industrial operations is preferred.
Core Background: Proven track record of operating grievance mechanisms, executing community investment initiatives, and managing complex stakeholder dynamics.
Data Management: Direct experience in managing ESG datasets, social reporting (GRI), and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
Core Technical & Language Capabilities
Key Skills: High-level stakeholder negotiation, crisis communications, social risk assessment, conflict resolution, and cross-functional leadership
Languages: Professional business/technical fluency in Arabic and in English
